Ready to immerse yourself in God’s Word and His Creation? The Divemaster Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a unique and intense 6 month program in which you will delve deep into God’s word, share His love with others, and become a leader among your peers as you gain new skills, explore the wonders of the underwater world, and enter the professional community as a Divemaster.

Discipleship Training School (YWAM DTS) is a six-month missions training experience that empowers you to live passionately and change the world by knowing God personally and making him known to others.

The school consists of two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase. In the lecture phase, you will learn more about God and His purpose for you, not only from teachings but also from community living and practical training. The outreach phase focuses on applying what you learned in the classroom through an intense, cross-cultural experience.

The DTS also gives you an opportunity to discover your passions and explore how to use them in God’s purpose for the world. The Divemaster DTS focuses on professional development, outdoor leadership, and underwater adventures, and environmental conservation as a way of creating capable, independent, and educated world-changers.

During the lecture phase, students, leaders, and crew live on the Next Wave vessel, a 132-foot (42 meter) sailboat in the Caribbean. The group will be engaged in dive courses, starting with the introductory Open Water Course, all the way up to the professional level Divemaster course. Throughout these few months, students will work with local PADI dive instructors to obtain their certifications, make 60+ dives all throughout the Caribbean — including deep water dives, night dives, and reef clean-up dives — and learn about living within a community, sailing, and ocean conservation along the way.

This Divemaster DTS is a highly rigorous program, consisting of up to 15-hour days and 6-day weeks. Applicants must be aware of the high level of mental and physical endurance required to successfully complete all the dive courses and the discipleship training. Additionally, a student must:

  • Be 18+ years of age
  • Be a strong swimmer (you will be required to pass four stamina tests in order to pass the dive master course– a 400m swim, 15-minute tread, 800m snorkel, and 100m diver tow)
  • Be First Aid and CPR Certified through an internationally recognized first response organization such as Red Cross. Certification must remain valid for the duration of DTS (certification only lasts 2 years).
  • Have PADI’s medical fitness form filled out and signed by student and physician. A link to this form will be sent once accepted to this program.
  • Complete the e-learning portion of two courses: Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver. You will be receiving the web-based learning materials once accepted to this program.
